About

"Rejection: When No Said Yes" is a thought-provoking group exhibition that delves into the intricate tension between rejection and acceptance. It begins by posing a fundamental question: What makes 'no' so intimidating? The participating artworks offer diverse responses, some embracing the simplicity of a 'no,' others challenging or shifting the narrative to assert control over the rejection, and some remaining in a profound silence. This exhibition serves as an invitation for viewers to engage with the concept of rejection not as a definitive endpoint, but rather as a crucial point of departure for growth and discovery. Each piece in the show reflects a unique approach to doubt, non-conformity, and resistance, ultimately revealing how these powerful forces can catalyze significant personal and artistic breakthroughs. The exhibition refrains from providing definitive answers, instead opening a reflective space for individual interpretation. As curatorial statement by Noor Albar, Sejal Dalvi, and Marjolaine Delsupesxhe Cesarini prompts, "What do you think? What do you feel?"

In 'Rejection: When No Said Yes,' Hyunah explored how painting could embody the sensation of movement and continuous transformation. Her long-standing fascination lies with evolving surfaces—those that subtly tremble, shift, and resonate over time. Within the traditional confines of an exhibition setting, where artworks are typically static and untouchable, Hyunah questioned how to infuse her paintings with this dynamic, evolving sensation. This project marked a significant turning point, allowing her to share her interest in a more open and participatory mode of exhibition. She actively resisted the conventional static presentation, instead welcoming presence, movement, and direct interaction from the viewer. Her featured works, Momentum (I, II, and III) and Moving Piece, are conceived as perceptual surfaces that profoundly embody this sense of evolution. Hyunah envisions them as extensions of the very walls they inhabit, yet they hang suspended, forming three distinct planes that gently invite the viewer's touch and engagement.
